As many people will be aware, the Chancellor announced Business Rates will be cut by a 3rd for all smaller shops. Shops with a rateable value under £51,000 will be eligible, which means that a significant amount of high streets shops will qualify.
This will directly assist many of our independent shops have as a result of Conservative MPs pressing the Chancellor for change. I am delighted that the Chancellor has responded positively. It is often said that local shops are the lifeblood of our community, and it is important to me that we find ways to provide support while recognising the pace of change in how customers are choosing to shop.
This Business Rates cut should really help smaller shops across Stroud, the Valleys and Vale and indeed across the whole country but I know there are many pressures on small businesses.
I would love to hear from local businesses about this policy and the other measures being considered for our high streets.
