There is a brand new railcard that will halve rail travel for 16 and 17 year olds benefitting young people and their families across the country. We estimate that this will benefit 1.2 million young people.
We are also rolling out an industry led 26-30 year old rail card to cut a third off most rail tickets. The aim is to give young people in their early years of work a cheaper commute (approximately 3 million young people).
As somebody who travels by train and has not been in the above young age groups for quite some time… I share the concerns about rising travel costs for other groups but we are taking that on in other ways.
It is important that this positive initiative for young people and their parents gets a fair hearing so that it is taken up as widely as possible.
