It is important that we keep up public awareness about the campaign to improve disabled access at Stroud Station.
You may recall myself and other councillors from all the parties out in the town encouraging people to sign a petition in September last year. See Stroud Town Council’s video about why changes are needed.
Great Western Railway (GWR) have subsequently included Stroud’s bid in their nomination to the Department for Transport. We are however low down GWR’s nomination list as the station is not a junction.
My team are working to impress on as many people as possible that making the station more accessible with lifts is not only a seriously important for disabled and elderly passengers, it is also a catalyst for other meaningful improvements in the town and surrounding streets.
All local Conservatives supported our submission to Great Western Railway. I have written to the Minister at the Department for Transport and I am seeing the Minister of State for Disabled people soon to discuss the matter. Other local political teams are supporting this too.
We will keep up the pressure and fingers crossed!
